Fire (agni) is the energy of transformation, digestion, and metabolism. Agni not only digests all the food we eat, but it is also responsible for the digestion of ideas, emotions, and experiences collected through the five senses. Everything that comes into the body is digested, assimilated, or eliminated.

Fire (agni) is hot, dry, light, subtle, and sharp.
Balanced Agni (Sama Agni) is ideal. Food digests well when eaten at regular intervals, and the building of the tissues is strong and supported.
Irregular Agni (Visma Agni) is unpredictable. At times, food digests well; other times, it is too weak or too strong. This agni causes irregularity in tissues. (Vata tendency.)
Sharp Agni (Tiksna Agni) is sudden. Hunger spikes immediately, and food is usually eaten in larger quantities and irregular intervals. This causes tissues to burn. (Pitta tendency.)
Slow agni (Manda Agni) does not digest food well, even in moderate quantities. Due to the slow nature of the agni, tissues are low in quality and higher in quantity. (Kapha tendency.)
A well-balanced agni will function effectively to
- Digest food
- Nourish the doshas (vata – energy / pitta – radiance / kapha – strength)
- Creates subtle doshas (vigor – ojas / luminosity – tejas / energy – prana)
- Nourishes the tissues (7: plasma, blood, muscle, fat, bone, nerve, reproductive)
- Seperates wastes
- Clears the mind, thoughts, and ideas
- Digests ideas, emotions, and experiences
- Maintains balance of doshas (catabolism – vata / anabolism – pitta / metabolism – kapha)
- Maintains life
Work with Deborah to balance your agni for a stronger digestion of food, ideas, experiences, and thoughts.
