Transitioning to Summer

The transition from Spring to Summer aggravates Pitta (Fire + Water) as temperatures move from mild to hot. This is when digestive fire is at its lowest, so simple, cool, and fresh foods, such as fruits and vegetables, are preferable. Staying hydrated with room-temperature water or herbal teas pacifies. Spicy, heating, fermented, and fried foods only aggravate Pitta further. Staying out of the sun and saunas while seeking shade will pacify Pitta’s fire. Pitta is alleviated in the Winter.

It is a time to cool, hydrate, and balance the increasing heat in the body. Movement practices favoring gentle yoga, meditation, and adequate rest nourish the dosha. Spending time in nature and following a consistent daily routine can also help maintain balance and energy during the seasonal shift.
